Important information about perimenopause stage in woman

One of the important stages in the life of every woman is menopause. It refers to the ending of the menstrual cycle in the women.

It must be taken into account that the time period before the onset of menopause is termed as perimenopause and this takes place in a woman in her 30`s and 40`s. First stage of menopause is perimenopause and it begins 8 to 10 years before menopause. The ovaries of the woman stop releasing eggs and ovaries gradually start to produce less estrogen. In this stage, every women experience some changes in the timing of her periods or heaviness in her periods.

A woman might have these symptoms during her perimenopause stage. The various symptoms are hot flashes, mood changes, irregular periods, night sweats, insomnia, headaches, fatigue, osteoporosis etc. Important information is a woman could get pregnant in her perimenopusal stage inspite of decline in her fertility. By using some birth control pills till her menopause stage, pregnancy could be prevented. So woman must take care .

Perimenopause is associated with certain risk factors like smoking, cancer treatment, family history etc.

Foods that could be taken and avoided in perimenopause stage:
It is known that in this stage the body of a woman goes through various changes and hence foods rich in fibre content, calcium, proteins and omega 3 fatty acids must be taken. Foods like doughnuts, hot chocolate drinks, fatty meats etc must be avoided.

When to consult a doctor:
It must be noted that when a woman experiences severe chronic stomach pain it is necessary to consult a doctor immediately. When the woman gets irregular periods that are heavier than usual then doctor must be consulted.

Perimenopause diagnosis by doctor:
When a woman visits a doctor, the doctor would ask about her age, menstrual history and symptoms she is having etc. For checking her hormone level, doctor would recommend certain tests.

Perimenopause treatments:
It is important to note that intake of certain antidepressants like SSRIs could lessen menopausal hot flashes. For the purpose of lowering perimenopausal symptoms, estrogen therapy in form of pill, gel etc is superb.
