The most common advise given to those who suffer from hypertension is ‘reduce your sodium intake’. Although this advise is sound, there are other nutrients that must be added to your diet to fight the disease. Here are the details.
  • Potassium helps to control blood pressure. Foods that are rich in this mineral are potatoes, spinach, tomatoes, bananas, oranges and dry fruits.
  • A low magnesium level leads to changes in the circulatory and cardio systems in the body. Magnesium is found in whole grains, pulses, dals, whole wheat bread, nuts, spinach and tofu.
  • A high fiber diet helps to lower blood pressure. Eat foods rich in fibre such as oat bran, wheat bran, whole cereals and pulses, peas, soya beans and fruits.
