Regardless of age, gender etc, many of us would have felt physical pain in our lives at some point of time. Nerve related disorders are indicated when a person does not experience any pain. Truth is that pain is a common symptom of any disease and injuries etc. Pain could be either mild/temporary or it could be severe/ permanent.

When ligament tear or broken bones occur then he or she would experience pain that would be intense and long lasting. Other types like headaches or stomach pain etc could go away in a short time. It is obvious that we turn to painkillers or anti-inflammatory medications to get relief from the severe pain. It must be noted that OTC or over the counter medicines are those that would be available without any prescription. Point is that most painkillers are available as over the counter medications. Taking painkillers frequently is not good and it would harm our health.

Various side effects of taking painkillers frequently are

Liver damage:
Frequent intake of painkillers would harm the liver. For example, painkillers like paracetamol are dangerous to the liver. It is worthy to mention that peroxides are formed by the metabolism of paracetamol in the body and this could be dangerous to the liver.

Stomach ulcers:
The lining of the stomach could get damaged by frequent intake of pain killing medicines like Ibuprofen, Naproxen and Aspirin etc. It could lead to ulcers in the stomach.

Increases depression:
Many of us would be surprised to know that consumption of painkillers frequently could reduce the effectiveness of drugs used to treat depression. As a result, depression would become more. Frequency of painkillers like NSAIDs must be avoided by those who take antidepressants.

Kidney failure:
Those with diabetes and BP must be very careful when they consume painkillers like Ibuprofen etc. These painkillers could cause kidney damage and kidney failures etc.

Miscarriage:
It is believed that pregnant women who take painkillers like NSAIDs in the first 20 weeks of pregnancy would have miscarriage. It is known that certain hormones stimulate labour during pregnancy and intake of painkillers would interfere with these hormones leading to miscarriage.

Bleeding issues:
Truth is that painkillers such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen etc thin the blood. Persons who are taking blood thinners must avoid consuming painkillers like NSAIDs. This could lead to over thinning of blood and excessive bleeding.

Gastric irritation:
Never consume painkillers in an empty stomach because it could lead to gastric irritations. The hyperacidity could lead to vomiting. It must be taken into note that persons with heartburns and acid reflux must take painkillers cautiously.

Heart attacks:
It has been brought out by some research studies that frequent use of NSAIDs could increase the risk of getting heart attacks. The shocking piece of information is that those who use NSAIDs often have 20% to 50% greater risk of getting heart attacks than those who do not consume them.

Getting addicted:
This is also one important side effect of frequent usage of painkillers. Both personal as well as our professional lives would get harmed due to painkiller addiction.
