When acid present in the stomach goes to the oesophagus resulting in burning in the chest, then we would get what is known as acidity or heartburns. Many suffer from this use these days is a well known fact. Those who have heartburn issues would show signs like burning pain in the chest, worsening of pain when lying down and bitter taste in the mouth etc.
It must be taken into note that once heartburns start then it would not be easy to get relief from that. It would be possible to manage or control heartburns by avoiding certain foods that would trigger heartburns such as caffeine, carbonated drinks, chocolates etc.
We could get relief from heartburn issues by following these.
By changing positions:
This is one easy way to get relief from heartburn. The person must stand up and walk around whenever he or she gets heartburn. It is believed that the gravity would push the acid back into the stomach and we could get relief from this issue.
By elevating our head:
Instead of keeping the head in normal position we can use some pillows to keep the head in a higher or elevated position. By this, it would be possible to prevent the stomach acid from going into the oesophagus. Point is that coughing, hoarseness associated with heart burns would be reduced.
By taking medicines:
Many of us follow this to get relief from heartburn issues. It must be noted that the over the counter antacid medicines Tums, Mylanta, Pepto Bismol etc can be used to get relief from this issue. Point is that medicines like Pepcid or Zantac suppress acid production in the stomach. Proton pump inhibitors or PPIs like Prilosec etc could also be used. Enough care and precaution must be taken while having PPIs as it could lead to heart attack and kidney issues etc.
By drinking milk:
The effect of excess stomach acid could get counteracted by drinking milk that is alkaline in nature. It is said that low fat or skim milk could be superb. The heartburns could worsen if we drink milk with a fat content of 2percent or whole milk.
By loosening the clothes:
The abdominal pressure could be reduced by loosening the clothes. This is also one superb way to get relief for acidity or heartburns.
By chewing sugar free gum:
When we chew gum, then our saliva production would increase is known. It is true that frequent swallowing would push acid back into the stomach itself and we could get relief from heartburn issues.
By consuming banana:
It is known that bananas are low acid food and they could counteract the pain from the acid in the stomach going into the throat and oesophagus etc.
