Right from the ancient times, our ancestor had the system of growing herbal plants. ‘Karpooravalli’ or oregano plant leaves are among the most important herbs grown.
Karpooravalli can be grown easily in the domestic setting as well.
Karpooravalli has a lot of medicinal properties and hence played a crucial in the daily domestic cures prepared by our ancestors. This is because the leaves of the herb karpooravalli have the medicinal properties to cure the various physical complaints about all age groups from the very young to the very old.
Especially, it is an ideal cure for the breathing problems encountered during the infanthood and childhood stages, uneasiness in the stomach, bile, vomiting sensation, cold, and indigestion complaints.
Take 2/3 leaves of the karpooravalli herbal plant. Keep them in 140 ml of water and boil well. Then, mix with a little honey and drink.
For the infants: Expose some leaves of karpooravalli to the steam released from the cooker a few time and take the juice extracted - mix this with the breastfed milk and give a few teaspoonfuls to the infant.
For children under the age of 5, it is advisable to give 30 milligrams or a quarter glass of the juice extracted from the karpooravalli leaves and water. For the children of the age group 5-12, give 60 ml or half-a-glass of this extract.
If this extract is given daily 2 times after the morning and evening eating sessions, wheezing and breathing complaints will get cured.
The elders can 200 milligrams of this extract by boiling 5 karpooravalli leaves in water and take without honey. Further, these leaves can be taken as a food form as well.
Sambar. Rasam and soup can be prepared using the leaves of karpooravalli. Dipping these leaves in a batter made from basin flour, bajjis can be prepared and taken. The karpooravalli herb leaves are the ideal food for the patients with sinus complaint.
By taking this 2 days in a week after food, the phlegm from cold will get gradually released through the mouth and the nose.
Apart from using as a food, inhaling the steam from a boiling mix of ginger, turmeric and karpooravalli leaves will also cure.
