The residents belonging to suburbs like Tambaram, Pallavaram, Maduravoyal, Poonamallee and Avadi are unhappy now regarding the lack of basic civic amenities like metro water connections, garbage collection and underground sewage etc. The truth is that there exists a huge disparity between suburbs and Chennai city main areas regarding these civic amenities. Now, the lack of these amenities has turned into poll issues in these localities.

It was pointed out by Mr Pugalventhan, an activist that houses in Maduravoyal constituency do not have an underground sewage connection. He added that these areas were brought under the Chennai Corporation almost 10 years back but even now they do not have basic amenities.

The important piece of information is that Maduravoyal constituency is the 4th largest in the state of TN with 4.48lakhs of voters. Tambaram is 8th largest constituency in TN with as many as 413552 voters. Here also there is a lack of basic civic amenities but MLA candidates meet the resident associations here frequently to hear their issues. Neighbourhood of Tambaram is Chitlapakkm and in this place there is no underground sewage available. This has made the lives of residents tough.

The absence of storm water drain or SWD in Poonamallee (another suburb with 357874 voters) has been an issue and the residents now want their issue to be solved immediately. This Poonamallee constituency is the 13th largest in TN is known. It was mentioned by a resident of Nazarathpet that the construction of SWD has been going on for many years. He concluded that intense flooding has been an issue.
