Rakhi Festival

Raksha Bandhan is a beautiful Indian festival which celebrates the natural bond of love and affection between a brother and a sister by means of a sacred thread called Rakhi. Festival of Rakhi is celebrated on the full moon of the Hindu month of Sharavana. Rakhi Festival 2008 will be celebrated on Tuesday, 16th August 2008.

On the day of Rakhi festival sisters perform an arti of their brothers and tie the sacred thread of rakhi on the wrist of the brother. While tying the holy thread sisters prays to the divine for her brothers well being and happiness. Brothers in their turn pledge to protect sister from all hardships and dangers that may befall on her. Later loving sisters treat their dear brothers with sweets and festive food. Brothers are supposed to give their sisters Rakhi gifts or some cash. Sisters too pamper brother with loads of Rakhi gifts.

There is fun and a harmony during the festival of Rakhi as the family reunites on this day. The best of festival food and sweets (especially kheer) are consumed between fun frolic and merriment on Rakhi day.
