Chennai Meteorological Centre has mentioned that there will be rains today in Tamil Nadu due to convection. In Tamil Nadu, the northeast monsoon withdrew on 4th January. After this there was weak trough.

This pattern of cold nights is set to continue for another 5 days and then for may be a day or two (12-14 February) we may see slight warm conditions due to easterlies penetrating into interior regions of Tamil Nadu.

The northeast monsoon withdrew on 5th January and from that day the winter season began. Initially there was less cold and later on it became very cold. The temperature came down.
