Good news for the Perumbakkam residents now!!
Though the bustling neighbourhood Perumbakkam has many schools, hospitals, restaurants etc, it lacks basic amenities such as proper roads, underground sewage lines and SWD etc. Vehicles getting stuck up on the mud in Perumbakkam could soon become a thing of the past.
It is known that Perumbakkam is bound by Sholinganallur to the east, Semmencherry to the south, Medavakkam to the north and Sitlapakkam to the west. There is a huge lake here that has become an important source of water for the farmers etc here
It is now brought out that the village panchayat has begun relaying dozen roads here. Various roads that were re-laid are Nookampalayam Main Road, Hospital Road, Ambedkar Road, Varadhapuram Salai and Nookampalayam Link Road. These roads stretch over a kilometre each is known to us.
The roads relaying project worth Rs 6.5 cr is being funded by CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority. It was mentioned by Suhasini Rangarajan, president of Perumbakkam village panchayat that the roads lacked a base and binding course, and these are being added now before road re-laying work.
After the images of pothole ridden water logged roads in Perumbakkam became viral, the south Chennai MP, Tamizhisai Thangapandiyan assured that the roads would be fixed.
It must be noted that the Hospital Road hosts many businesses and this road`s importance was mentioned by the resident Suhasini Rangarajan. It is learnt that a proposal was sent merging the village panchayat with Tambaram. By this, there would be better access to national and state funds.
No significant development took place at Perumbakkam in the last 2 decades and this was revealed by another resident belonging to Perumbakkam. He spoke about how flood mitigation works must be carried out as the monsoons would result in water stagnation here. There is a huge need for bus shelters, public toilets, parks etc
