The ideal time for taking girivalam in Thiruvannamalai

The administration of the famous Lord Arunachaleswarar temple in Thiruvannamalai has announced the ideal time to perform ‘girivalam’ on the auspicious occasion of the Full Moon Day (Pournami or Poornima) occurring in the Tamil calendar month of Panguni.

The temple of Lord Arunachaleswarar is considered to be the symbolise or signify one of the 5 nature elements, ‘Agni’ or fire. The folklore and legends have faith that by undertaking the ‘girivalam’ or going around the 14 km girivalam route on the temple an the worshipping and praying Lord Sri Arunachaleswarar and His Consort Goddess Sri Unnamulaiamman will answer the wishes of these devotees. So, several lakhs of devotees undertake ‘girivalam’ on the Full Moon day of every month!

In this tradition, the Full Moon Day on the Tamil Calendar Month of Panguni is set to occur from 10.00 AM on Wednesday, 20th March to 7.41 AM on Thursday, 21st March.

So, the temple administration has announced that the devotees can undertake ‘girivalam’ during this period.
