A person needs an average of - grams of fibre every day!

It is traditional for us to take a sumptuous food especially on celebratory days such as marriage or festivals. And, it is also traditional to end this rather sumptuous eating session with fruit salad!

However, it is utterly wrong to do this! Fruit salads are to be taken either half-an-hour before a meals session or half-an-hour after the meals session. Otherwise, habits such as taking fruit salad after a good meals session may lead to indigestions and gastric problems.

It is best to take fruit salad when feeling hungry! This is a special healthy food item which does no harm to the body or health!

Any 3 or 4 fruits such as mango, jackfruit, Plantain, pomegranate, grapes, papaya, sapodilla (known as sapota in Tamil and chikkoo in Hindi), orange, and watermelon can be cut into small cubes/pieces. Mix them together and take.

This diet would help prevent constipation. The body will gain more lustre. Also, the accumulation of cholesterol in the blood will be prevented. It also prevents the phenomenon of ageing!

Senior citizens and those who plan to reduce body weight can better take fruit salad as the main dinner diet.

However, diabetics cannot take fruit salads as wholesome food items. Instead, they can take it in reduced quantities (papaya, apple, guava) in between the meal breaks as snack items.

It is advisable for the pregnant women and patients to consult the doctor about the type of salad to be taken and follow the same.

It is important that children and senior citizens are given only fruits without nuts!  The main reason for this is that they would not be able to digest the nuts!

In case the fruit guava is to be added in the salad mix, it is better to remove the seeds before adding.

Those who consume salad as the main and only diet they can add items such as egg, paneer (processed cheese), fish, seeds, nuts, chicken, etc. while making the salad. This would ensure that the required quantity of protein will be included in the diet!
