Heritage Building turns 100

Celebrations are on to commemorate the 100th year of the Give Building on Mount Road, now Anna Salai.
The VST Group`s VST Titanium Motors is starting luxury Mercedes Benz showroom in the building. The relationship between Gove Building and Mercedes Benz is not new. The same VST Group sold Tata Mercedes Benz trucks in the building during the 1950s and 1960s. The medium commercial vehicles were a product of a Tata and Daimler Benz tie up that started in 1954.
In 1964, a 7 tonne Tata Mercedes Benz truck was brought to the showroom. People were invited to look at it. This created a lot of public interest.
A VST Titanium Motors official said, `The external part of the structure has been left untouched. Its stone columns continue to define its unique character. Changes have been carried out only on the inside.` The Gove Building was built in 1916. At that time, it was called the Cuddon Building. VST’s founder V.S. Thiruvengadaswamy Mudaliar bought the building in 1943 and renamed it.
The current showroom is 15000 sq.ft. VST Titanium Motors has two other showrooms - a 25000 sq. ft. one in Okkiyam - Thoraipakkam, and a 45000 sq. ft. one in Perungudi Industrial Estate.
