Smart City Plan is one of the ambitious and dream projects of the present BJP government. In this project covering the whole country, 6 cities have been selected from Tamil Nadu for Smart City Project.
They are Chennai, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Trichy, Nellai, and Thoothukudi.
The central government, in the 3rd Phase of the Smart City Project, has released the list of an additional 30 cities selected.
In this latest list, Trichy, Nellai, Tirupur, and Thoothukudi have all been selected from Tamil Nadu.
The news regarding Smart City Project is released during the month of June every year. In the 1st Phase Year – 2015, Chennai and Coimbatore were included. In the year 2016, no city was included from Tamil Nadu.
The 3rd Phase is now released. In this, Trichy, Nellai, Tirupur, and Thoothukudi are included from Tamil Nadu.
The Central government had announced at the start of the project that a total of 98 cities would be converted as Smart Cities. In that original list, Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Salem, Erode, Nellai, Thoothukudi, Dindigul, Tirupur, Vellore, and Thanjavur were included from Tamil Nadu.
Out of this, 6 cities have been included in the official lists released later.
