Surge in Seafood Demand During Aadi Month Causes 15% Price Increase at Kasimedu Market!

In the Tamil month of Aadi, seafood demand has surged, causing a 15% price increase at the Kasimedu wholesale market on Sunday. The high demand, driven by Amman temple offerings, has led to a shortage in supply, causing prices for fish like black pomfret and red snapper to double compared to the previous week.

The recent rainfall has altered sea patterns, reducing fish catch to under 10 tonnes. This decline has further fueled price hikes. Retail markets in Tiruvottriyur, Chintadripet, and Madhavaram reflect similar price increases, with only a small difference of Rs 50-100 per kilogram.

With temple festivals continuing through August, prices are expected to remain high until mid-month, according to market traders.
