Toll Fees to Increase from September 1 in Tamil Nadu!

Starting September 1, toll fees at 25 National Highway toll plazas across Tamil Nadu will rise by Rs 5 to Rs 150, depending on the vehicle type. This increase, mandated by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), follows annual adjustments based on the wholesale price index under the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008.

The fee revision affects 25 plazas annually on September 1, with the remaining 42 plazas adjusted on April 1. The hike, expected to be around 5-7%, will impact all vehicle categories.

Koyambedu traders expressed concerns that the increased toll fees could raise freight costs for essential goods, exacerbating already high prices for pulses, rice, and vegetables.

In 2023-24, Tamil Nadu’s toll revenue was Rs 4,221 crore, up from Rs 3,817 crore the previous year. Tamil Nadu ranks fifth nationally in toll collections, behind Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. Notably, the L&T Krishnagiri Thopur toll plaza led collections with Rs 269 crore.

During the recent Lok Sabha elections, major political parties, except the BJP, pledged to close toll plazas.

Key Toll Plazas with Increased Fees:
