Many residents belonging to Chennai have been coming out of their houses to buy vegetables and certain essential items. This has resulted in overcrowding of people in many places.
It is known that the government had announced the essential shops to be opened between 6 am to 2 pm to stop spreading of Covid-19. Now, more people are coming out of their houses and creating issues.
It is now brought out that to prevent people coming out of their homes, the GCC has allowed select super markets and shops to home deliver groceries and other essential items. The corporation official explained about how this home delivery would surely avoid overcrowding at shops.
In the 5 regions belonging to south Chennai alone, as many as 211 shops have been allowed to function.
In the Valasaravakkam zone, as many as 30 shops and in Alandur zone as many as 56 shops have been selected for door delivery. In the same manner, in Adyar and Perungudi zones 31 and 66 shops respectively have been selected. For the purpose of supplying essential items to the houses in Sholinganallur, as many as 28 shops have been selected by the corporation.
By this, the people who have been in home quarantine due to total lock down would be able to get their groceries and vegetables. It must be taken into account that GCC is also in the process of collecting the list of supermarkets and vegetable shops and the list is being circulated among the resident welfare associations in the respective zones.
