The Chennai Corporation has announced the closure of three tunnels in the city due to heavy rainfall. Intermittent showers across Chennai and its suburbs, caused by a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, have intensified over the past hour.
As a result, rainwater has accumulated in three major tunnels: the Palavanthangal tunnel, the Aranganathan tunnel, and the tunnel connecting Guindy to Kathipara. This has led to traffic disruptions in these areas.
Corporation officials are actively working to pump out the water using motorized equipment. In the meantime, vehicles heading toward these tunnels are being diverted to alternate routes to ease congestion and ensure safety.
Residents are advised to avoid these areas and follow traffic updates for smoother travel.
