Thaipusam, a sacred festival dedicated to Lord Murugan, is being celebrated with grandeur across all Murugan temples, including the six abodes Palani, Thiruparankundram, Tiruchendur, Tiruttani, Swamimalai, and Palamudircholai. The festival, which is coinciding with the full moon and Poosam star in the Tamil month of Thai, is falling on an auspicious day today.
Devotees are thronging the Vadapalani Murugan Temple in Chennai from early morning. The temple is opening at 4 AM, followed by the Thiruppalli Uzhai ritual. The milk anointment (abhishekam) for Lord Murugan is taking place from 1 PM to 4 PM, with special queues being arranged for devotees carrying kavadi and fulfilling vows. The Swami Thiruveethi procession, featuring Lord Murugan on a peacock chariot, is being held at 8:30 PM, with darshan available from 5 AM to 10 PM. Security measures are being strengthened as thousands of devotees continue to gather for the celebration.
