The Madras High Court has dismissed a petition filed by residents of Madhavaram Milk Colony seeking protection from eviction, allowing them four months to vacate for the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) Phase 2 project.
The petitioners had requested a stay on their eviction; however, the court observed that modernization in the dairy sector has reduced the necessity for individual milk providers to be located near the farm. Based on this, the court ruled that residents cannot demand the State to halt the eviction process.
With this ruling, the CMRL Phase 2 project is expected to proceed as planned, and residents have been given a four-month period to vacate the premises.
