IIT Madras to Launch Fourth Campus in Auroville

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) will establish its fourth campus in Auroville in the coming months, announced director V. Kamakoti. Spanning 100 acres, the campus will focus on sustainability, featuring a 20-acre zero-emission testing centre for electric vehicles.

The institute`s main campus is in Guindy, with additional campuses at Thaiyur (Discovery) and Zanzibar, Tanzania. The announcement was made during an event at the Guindy campus, where Additional Secretary of the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries, Hanif Qureshi, launched the ‘zero-e-mission’ initiative, including a truck driving simulator, research labs, and an electric vehicle analytics centre.

IIT-M also introduced a web-enabled M.Tech and a 100-hour online certification in e-mobility. A technical report on battery electric trucks’ safety in hazardous goods transport was released, analyzing battery fire risks and safety solutions.
