The Tamil Nadu Weatherman has forecasted consistent rainfall across coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, with the spell expected to last until December 1, 2024. A depression located below Sri Lanka is moving north-northwest and is expected to stay near the Tamil Nadu coast for the next 4-5 days.
Rainfall is likely to begin in Chennai and surrounding KTCC areas within the next 1-2 hours, with intensifying showers expected from November 27. The spell is anticipated to bring heavy to very heavy rains, benefiting reservoirs like Poondi, Chembarambakkam, and Redhills, which are currently at 15%, 59%, and 71% capacity, respectively.
Coastal districts, including Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Karaikal, Thanjavur, Cuddalore, and Pondicherry, are set to experience heavy rains. South Tamil Nadu districts like Ramanathapuram may also receive rainfall depending on the depression’s path. Northern and northeastern regions of Sri Lanka are expected to face extreme rainfall over the next two days.
Despite the prolonged rains, the depression is not expected to cause significant wind damage. Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the sea as conditions along the northern Tamil Nadu coast will be rough.
The Tamil Nadu Weatherman has clarified that updates will continue to be shared through official platforms while refraining from media engagements.
