Streamlining of construction waste removal in Chennai by GCC!!!

It is known that GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has been taking many measures to keep Chennai neat and clean.

In this regard, starting from 17th January 2025 onwards, GCC would begin collection and transportation of construction and demolition waste across 15 zones. Within 4 to 6 weeks, the system would be streamlined and this was mentioned by Mr. J. Kumaragurubaran, GCC Commissioner. 

Intensive clean up drive:

In the intensive clean up drive that took place in Chennai on 7th January and 13th January 2025 5323 metric tons of construction debris was removed inside the GCC limits. The Chennai Mayor R. Priya launched the initiative of intensive cleaning in 7 GCC zones. As many as 59 vehicles and machinery were used.

It was later brought to light by a press release that designated dump points have been established in all zones to prevent illegal disposal and to ensure efficiency. Pint to be noted is that waste from these zones would be collected and transported to Perungudi and Kodungaiyur sites. As per the release, the comprehensive plan from GCC has the objective of enhancing waste management infrastructure in Chennai within specified time.
