Superrrr news about TN students cracking tough exams for NMMS scholarships!!
Gone are the days, when the school students would have to depend entirely on their parents for money for fulfilling their basic needs!!
Things have changed now and many students these days take part in NMMS exams for the sake of scholarship. In the February month, exams were held for NMMS or National Means cum Merit Scholarships.
The news that has come out is that from Tamil Nadu as many as 6695 students have cracked the exams. These students would get a scholarship amount of Rs 1000 per month for the period from class 9 to class 12.
For the academic year 2024-25, from Tirunelveli dist as many as 508 students were selected and from Salem dist as many as 479 students were selected. As many as 470 students were selected from Thoothukudi district. From Chennai district, 168 students have been selected for the NMMS scholarships.
Every year under the Union Ministry of Education, NMMS exams are conducted by the DGE or Directorate of Government Examinations is known. It must be noted that for class 8 students (who have shown meritorious performances) belonging to economically weaker background exams are conducted.
It was brought to light by a data from the education dept that across TN more than 2.30 lakhs of students have applied for the NMMS exams. About 6695 students of class 8 have been selected for the scholarship.
Information gathered is that as many as 1173 students belong to OBC category, 1992 from General category, 234 students from BC category and 1338 students from MBC category.
