Chennai Highways Department has proposed a Rs. 320 crore plan for building flyovers, bridges and subways in the city to manage the increasing traffic and is waiting for the approval from Government.
To reduce the traffic congestion, it has been planned to construct eight new projects in Chennai city. A flyover project between Thoraipakkam and Pallavaram at the expenditure of Rs.60 crore connecting East Coast Road and Old Mahabalipuram Road will reduce the traffic hike in South Chennai area. For the convenience of people residing at Alandur, a Rs.50 crore inner wing road including G.S.T Medavakkam Road is in the plan.
A Rs.30 crore over bridge on Koovam along with a connecting road between Noolambur and Poonamalle Road is on the proposal.
In addition, similar flyovers like Kathipara [multiple layers] are going to be constructed in Medavakkam Solinganallur Junction and Medavakkam Mambalam Junction. Likewise, at the Kilkattalai Junction, a Rs.60 crore multiple layer flyover has been planned. A platform at a cost of Rs.12 crore in the GST Road in Tambaram will make it easy to cross the road.
Many escalators and lifts are also in the plan to make it convenient for the public.
