The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has mentioned that there was power cut in some areas of Chennai because major fire destroyed cables at Koyambedu power sub-station. In a press release the TNEB has mentioned: On 10th May at 10 PM, there was a fire flame at Chennai Koyambedu 230 Kilo volts substation and at 110 kilo volt substation. In order to prevent the fire from spreading, the substations were switched off as precautionary measure. Because of this, there was power cut for 40 minutes at Ashok Nagar, K K Nagar, Virugambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Choolaimedu and a few other places in Chennai. The fire was put off and the sub stations started operating.
