The State Ground and Surface Water Resource Data Centre has been conducting researches on the reasons for lowering of ground water level in Tamil Nadu.
To analyze the same, all open wells in 3238 areas and 1480 bores are being analyzed. The ground water level in various areas of Tamil Nadu are being analyzed month on month. In the research made in the state last month, it is stated that in 16 districts including Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Dharmapuri, Thiruvannamalai, Karur, Perambalur, Selam, Namakkal, Tanjore, Viluppuram, Tuticorin, Virudhunagar, Nilgiris, and Kanniyakumari have got increased level of ground water as compared to June 2015.
However, in 15 districts including Krishnagiri, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Erode, Ariyalur, Pudhukottai, Dhindugal, Rammanathapuram, Sivagangai, Theni, Thirunelveli, etc, there is significant reduction in ground water level. It is also to be noted that the ground water level in Chennai is not yet disclosed.
