The Chennai Police has emphasised the need to install CCTV cameras following the rapid increase in the robberies committed on the 2-wheelers.
There has been a spate of robberies committed by 2-wheeler drivers/pillion riders in Chennai.
The Chennai Police has put up a request to install CCTVs to prevent this. It will help catch the culprits quite quickly.
A Police Deparatment higher official explained that the crimes can be brought down considerably by installing CCTV camera in residential areas. This will also help reduce the number of such crimes.
Following the suggestion from the city Police, 20 families, residing in Sundaramurthy Vinayakar Kovil Street in Triplicane in Chennai city, have installed CCTV cameras in distributed locations across the street at a cost of Rs. 2.50 Lakhs.
A higher police official from Mylapore explained that CCTV cameras have been installed at intervals of 500 metres. This would help monitor the movements of outsiders in the area.
Discussions between the flat/apartment administrators and the Police Department were conducted at various places in the Chennai.
The Chennai Police Commissioner T Rajendran participated in the discussions held at Thoraipakkam.
The Chennai Police has planned to conduct similar discussions in K K Nagar and other places in the city.
