Prices of flower soar high this festive season

Prices of the flowers have gone high on the occasion of Ayutha Poojai but the merchants said that there was no expected business. Ayutha Pooja is being celebrated today. Flowers play an important role in this religious function. Flowers from various districts have been arriving to Koyambedu wholesale market. The prices are high because there is less supply of flowers and at the same time the business is dull.
President, M.D.Arul Viswasam, Chennai Koyambedu Malar Motha Vyabarigal Sangam while speaking said: On the occasion of Ayutha Poojai, we expected more flowers at Koyambedu wholesale market. This year there was short supply of flowers. Normally the flowers for Ayutha Pooja will arrive in 60 to 70 lorries from various places of Tamil Nadu. This year the flowers were brought only in 30 lorries. Because of this, the prices of flowers have soared up.
Normally when there is short supply of flowers there will be hot business but there was no expected business. Though Ayutha Poojai falls on Monday, there are continuous holidays. In most of the places Ayutha Poojai was celebrated on Friday. Due to this reason there were no sales. During Ayutha Poojai season the sales of Samanthi Poo will be high. This year the prices of Samanthi Poo were also less. There was no business for the last 2 days.
In the retail markets except jasmine flower, all the flowers of arm length was sold for Rs 20. On arm length of jasmine was sold for Rs 30.
