For uninterrupted water supply in the rural areas TN government to spend huge amount

Uninterrupted water supply is highly essential for our daily activities. The latest news that has emerged now is Tamil Nadu state government has announced on Thursday, 26th April 2018, that it would spend mammoth amount of Rs 531 crores so that  uninterrupted water supply would be available in many rural places in Tamil Nadu.

A blueprint is now prepared by the government of TN for the above mentioned purpose and it involves activities such as digging new wells, borewells, plus augmenting the capacity of pump sets and implementing 36777 identified works. Chief Minister of TN Mr. Edappadi K. Palaniswami last week turned made many heads turn when he announced Rs 200 crores for water supply in local bodies during May and June months. An amount of Rs 50 crores was allotted to rural local bodies for continuous water supply.

On Thursday, Mr S.P. Velumani who is municipal administration and water supply minister grabbed the attention of many when he took part in high level review meeting with rural development department. The minister spoke about how detailed analysis has been done by rural local bodies and how plans were laid to tackle the situation.

Some officials threw light on the fact that source of funding comes from own revenue of local bodies plus from grants sanctioned by state and central governments. In the month of February itself all the districts were told to prepare an action plan. It is now confirmed by a senior official that the works have already started.

The districts like Madurai. Sivaganga, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Tirupur etc were recorded with high deficit rainfall in the year 2017. It is now revealed that in this summer it would be worst. In the year 2017, state government spent out Rs 532 crores is known.

Minister for municipal administration and water supply Mr. Velumani spoke about the storage tanks that were chlorinated fortnightly and how enough chlorine tablets and bleaching powder were stocked.
