There are 3 bus shelters or stops built by GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation at Little Mount stop or near Saidapet court in Chennai city and they act as transit points for those going to south Chennai. It is now revealed that none of the MTC buses stop at these shelters at little mount stop or Saidapet Court bus stops. The MTC buses instead stop near the foot over bridge close to the area to pick up or drop the commuters.
The official data has shown that 80 to 100 MTC buses arrive at these bus shelters in the above mentioned place in Chennai. It is now said that the 3 bus shelters built by GCC are of no use as the MTC buses drivers do not use these bus shelters to stop the buses.
It was later mentioned by a resident belonging to Iyyappanthangal who often comes to the stop at this Little Mount that for the sake of shade the passengers waited near the over bridge in the summer season. He added that the commuters have moved away from these bus shelters further now.
It must be taken into account that there is a traffic signal present right after the over bridge and 2 or 3 MTC buses reach the bus stop at the same time and this creates huge problems. The MTC buses block the way and as a result of that the cars and 2 wheelers could not move even after green signal was present. In addition to these, when the buses return to the bus depot present right opposite things become worse.
Inside the Saidapet bus depot, there is not enough parking area available and hence buses take long time to enter and park. The vehicular traffic gets blocked on the other side also as other MTC buses start queuing.
It was revealed that the private vehicles need to be manoeuvred in whatever space available. It was mentioned by an official belonging to MTC that halting in front of bus shelters was difficult because of many private vehicles parked near the exit.
Information is most of these private vehicles are owned by the visitors to Saidapet court and this included advocates also. Barricades were placed to prevent illegal parking and 2 wheelers were seized that were parked beyond the point. This was as per a traffic police official. It is now brought out that the violations still continue and MTC passengers suffer by standing in the heat.
