A new bridge across Cooum River in Avadi soon

Last week, the construction of bridge across Cooum River in Avadi resumed is known. Point to be noted is for the last 4 years the construction of the bridge has been stalled due to land acquisition case. The superb information is the construction of bridge is nearing completion and it would be fully completed by the end of the August month.

It was in the year 2015 the construction of the bridge started in Avadi and even as most of the work was completed the construction was stopped due to a case filed by one of the land owners. An official belonging to NABARD expressed his thoughts and said recently the required land was acquired and the construction is progressing at good speeds now.

By connecting Kamaraj Nagar and Ayalcheri, this bridge would help many motorists to reach Poonamallee very easily.  An amount of Rs 6.6 crores has been spent to build this bridge in Avadi and the amount was funded by NABARD or National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development. As the present Kannanpalayam flyover has become dilapidated, the project to build a new bridge kicked off on 15th April 2015. It is worthy to note that the construction was completed 80 % even before the end of 2015 though the deadline was August 2016.

This new bridge construction across Cooum River in Avadi has brought great delight on the faces of the residents of Kamaraj Nagar now. They spoke about how they had to take a longer route to cross Cooum and how it was highly risky for their lives. The shocking information is Kannanpalayam Bridge or flyover has become dilapidated ever since 2008. In the year 2015, the floods have weakened the pillar and led to cracks. With no roads or railings, the bridge has been left in the neglected state. The pathway filled with sands and stones posed huge issues for the commuters.

It must be noted that absence of railings on both sides posed a high risk of people falling in the Cooum River. It was pointed out by a resident that the new bridge would bring safe ride to the city’s parts crossing the river. Information is the un constructed bridge has been kept under back stage for 4 years and this has led to cows using the bridge plus parking place for heavy motor vehicles. As the bridge is not connected to the other end yet, some commuters enter the unmanned bridge form Kamaraj Nagar and turn back.
