Many people suffer from renal failure these days and find their daily lives tough. It must be noted that these people require dialysis for their survival. The shocking information is in India, atleast 2.5 lakhs people die every year due to kidney failure and it is the third biggest killer after heart diseases and cancer. Point is dialysis is very expensive and not many could afford for it.

The sensational news that has come out is on Thursday. 29th August 2019, GCC third dialysis unit operated by Tanker Foundation was inaugurated in Perungudi, Chennai. It must be taken into account that already 29 dialysis machines have been present and now another 11 machines are added.

It is revealed that free dialysis would be available for the renal failure patients. Atleast 60 more patients having renal failure would be given new lease of life now by the dialysis unit. This was according to the Chennai corporation commissioner, Mr. G. Prakash. He shed light on the presence of two free dialysis units in places like Red Hills and Nungambakkam and spoke about how currently 200 people have been getting treatment.

It is worthy to mention here that some people utilize chief minister’s insurance card for getting dialysis treatment. For those who do not have insurance, the civic body refunds the cost of medicines. Under the chief minister’s health insurance scheme, dialysis is the most opted procedure and this was as per the statistics with the state health department.

As per Mr. Madhusudhan Reddy, deputy commissioner health, it is clear that there were around 1500 dialysis machines available in the private sector. He added that in the next couple of years in Chennai there would be atleast 300 dialysis machines for the sake of poor people. It is now said that by achieving this number in the next couple of years the corporation would be able to compete with the private sector and make sure the cost do not rise.

Places like Chinna Porur, Injambakkam and Tiruvallur would soon become cynosure of many eyes as free dialysis units would be set up in these places. This was according to Mr. Madhusudhan Reddy.
