The cyber security firm K7 computing has confirmed that in the entire India Chennai had recorded the highest cyber attacks during the Q4 2019-20analysis. Shocking isn’t it!!

The infection rate in Chennai was 42% and in Patna it was 38%. Cities like Bengaluru, Kolkata and Hyderabad had infection rates of 35%. This was according to the Cyber Threat Monitor Report.

It must be noted that in this quarter threat actors continued to exploit vulnerabilities in the outdated software and operating systems. As Microsoft has stopped providing updates and patches to Windows XP and Windows 7 these versions were more at risk.

Popular cyber attacks were attacks by root kits like Curveball, Remote Code Execution, phishing attacks based on Covid-19 trends, DOS attacks etc. In the Q4 2019-20, there were also more complex USB attacks also. Crypto mining malware was the most popular USB attack. Fake apps, Covid-19 apps infected with malware and phishing attacks had targeted the individuals.

It was later brought to light by the founder and CEO of K7 Computing, Mr. Kesavardhanan that there has been a new trend of advanced threat actors offering malware as the service to the cyber criminals. Even in the next quarter, the number of Covid-19 themed attacks plus complex Trojan attacks might be there. This was as per some experts at K7 labs.

Updating the systems with the latest patches, avoiding using pirated software, installing a reputed antivirus product plus practising proper digital hygiene could be the solution to prevent cyber attacks. This was as per the experts of K7 Computing.
