The Coronavirus infection threat has stopped many from going to the hospitals.

The doctors belonging to various hospitals in Chennai had confirmed that in the last one month there has been an increase in the complaints from the patients regarding gallbladder inflammation and related issues. Delay in seeking medical care due to the second infection wave has led to more cases and complications.

It was later brought out by Dr. Kapali Neelamekam, senior consultant, gastro and minimal access surgeon at Fortis Hospital that before the Covid-19 pandemic there were less than 5 patients a month with gallbladder related complaints. In the second wave, this hospital has been receiving20 patients per month with gallbladder related issues.

Getting medical attention is very important and any delay in that plus self medication could complicate the surgery. This could lead to more deaths also. He later explained how a gall stone that could be operated easily could combine with the gall stones in the common bile duct due to the delay in seeking medical attention.

It is shocking to mention that more youngsters complain about gallbladder related issues now. The reasons for this could be due to the lifestyle changes and eating habits that would affect gallbladder. Many youngsters now eat a low fibre diet plus fast foods etc and these have resulted in ten gallbladder related issues in them. Fact is that the chances of obesity contributing to gallbladder issues are high. With a reduction in the number of Coronavirus cases now than before, those having signs like upper abdomen pain on the right side, right shoulder pain, nausea etc must get treated immediately.

Popular gastroenterologist, Dr John Verghese later revealed that eating food with low cholesterol, exercising plus reducing alcohol intake could lower the risk of gallbladder related issues in all age groups.
