The voters not receiving their booth slips has been the subject for discussion for many now!!
In Chennai and in its suburbs, many have not yet received their booth slips. Point is that the officers have promised to distribute the booth slips before 6pm on Friday.
Mr. Jayaraman, president, T. Nagar Welfare Residents Association expressed his views regarding the booth slips not issued to the voters. He mentioned that around 90% of residents belonging to his street haven’t yet received their booth slips for voting and they do not know where to vote. It is learnt that in 2011 during the local body elections booth slips were distributed 2 days before the elections day. He concluded that inspite of giving complaints to the corporation officers no action was taken.
It was also pointed out by Mr. Sundaresan Natarajan belonging to Tambaram that the election booths were shifted after the last elections. He added that the residents were clueless regarding when they would receive their booth slips.
Just 50% of the residents have received their booth slips while the rest have not yet received. Truth is that the residents would be able to cast their votes even if they do not have the booth slips with them. This was according to some activists. Mr. Raghunath, an activist belonging to Perambur spoke about how the residents must cast their votes without fail as it was their right.
The booth slips have been issued to 85.57% of the population belonging to Chennai and this was as per some officers belonging to GCC.
