We all know the river named Mandakini isn`t it!!
Soon, another ‘Mandakini’ would be spoken in high esteem by many. We are now talking about the amazing Mandakini hostel that has been constructed by the highly popular educational institute IIT or Indian institute of Technology. Inside IIT-Madras, a 10 storey state of art building has been built on an area of 32180 sq km for the sake of the students. An amount of Rs 146.75 crores was spent for this building.
It is noteworthy that this amazing building has been built taking into consideration various green building measures adopted in the construction stage. The main aim was to get a 4 star rating in GRIHA. It is known that GRIHA is a national rating system for green buildings. Truth is that in IIT-M an old building has been demolished. Sensational information is that this new building could accommodate 1200 students. To reduce the consumption of conventional energy sources, the building has got solar power panels and solar hot water systems etc. Inside the building, pits for rain water has been provided. Toilets present in this new building would have mechanical ventilation and low energy and recycled materials were used for the construction.
Point to be noted is that the building has been built in a superb manner and enough light would enter corridors and rooms. Transparent light roofing is present at the interaction area here. The presence of natural ambient space in the central courtyard would be superb. For playing cricket, volleyball and basketball etc, enough facilities have been provided.
