In the year 1946, Air India began its operations and it has a main hub at Indira Gandhi airport at Delhi.
Air India has integrated with Vistara is well known. On 27th of November, post its integration with Vistara, Air India has announced an optimisation of domestic routes. Information is that Air India has optimised 5 important domestic routes like Delhi & Mumbai, Delhi & Bengaluru, Delhi & Hyderabad, Mumbai & Bengaluru and Mumbai & Hyderabad.
It must be noted that the flights would operate with AI prefixed 4 digit flight numbers beginning with 2 like AI2999 from Delhi to Mumbai.
As per the MD of Air India Mr. Campbell Wilson it was clear that the merger of Air India and Vistara has unlocked new opportunities to improve customer service. He threw light on how by integrating both these full service carriers consolidation of best narrow body offering on the routes (with desire for high frequency full service product) were possible. Mr. Campbell Wilson later explained that there would be expansion of the coverage to more routes also in the future as Air India inducts new aircrafts.
It was brought out by the latest data from DGCA or Directorate General for Civil Aviation that in October Air India including Air India Express recorded a market share of 19.4percent. Point is that Vistara recorded a market share of 9.1 percent
One wide bodied flight each between Delhi and Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad using its Boeing777 or Airbus A350 aircraft (with AI prefixed3 digit flight numbers) would be operated by Air India. It must be recalled that in November month Air India Group completed operational integration and legal merger between Air India and Vistara.
It is now revealed that after the merger Air India Group would operate a combined fleet of 300 aircrafts covering 55 domestic and 48 international destinations. Along the 312 routes, there would be operation of 8300 flights per week. Currently, the collective staff strength is more than 30000.
