Why are tourists not allowed to visit Mahabalipuram near Chennai now?

As the delegates would be coming for the G20 Summit in Mahabalipuram, the visitors would not be allowed here on 1st of February 2023. This was announced by the Dept of Archaeology. It is said that the DSP of Mahabalipuram took part in a meeting with the owners of the private hotels yesterday.

As India would be taking charge of G20, seminars on various topics and 200 plus programmes were planned to be organised across India. From today 31st January to 2nd February 2023, the first  meeting of the Education committee will take place in Chennai.

There would be100 delegates from countries such as Australia, China,. Brazil, Argentina, France, Germany and Canada etc who would be making their presence felt. The delegates would be visiting some important ancient places in Mahabalipuram between  3pm to 6pm tomorrow. The TNTD has also made arrangements for this. There would also be many cultural programmes.

For the arrival of delegates for the summit, top class security arrangements have been made now at Mahabalipuram. In this scenario, the Dept of Archaeology has announced that visitors would not be allowed here on the 1st of February 2023. Police dept has been conducting sniffer dog searches in the hotels and in the public places here.
