Why suddenly yesterday Kasimedu market in north Chennai was buzzing with many customers?

Yesterday, the arrival of big fishes at the Kasimedu market was more and led to more crowds. Many people were very interested in purchasing big fishes.

Every day, more than 2000 power boats go to sea from the popular Kasimedu fishing harbour. Yesterday, on Sunday, the big fish`s arrival caught the attention here. The fishermen have caught big fishes like vanjiram meen, vavval meen, sheela meen, sankara meen, thirukkai meen etc. As yesterday was a holiday from the early morning itself many non vegetarian eaters crowded at the market in Kasimedu to buy their favourite fish.

To sell the fishes at cheap prices in the surrounding areas, many small traders and fisherwomen etc came to the market and purchased fishes. It must be noted that vanjaram meen was sold for Rs 800 to Rs 1000 per kg, Vavval meen was sold for Rs 600 to Rs 700 per kg, Likewise sankara meen and nethili meen were sold for Rs 400 to Rs 500 per kg and Rs 250 to rs 300 per kg respectively. White udon and karapodi were sold for Rs 150 per kg and Rs 100 per kg respectively. It is learnt that navarai, kanaangathai, prawns and crabs etc were sold up to rs 300 per kg.
