Chennai residents would not have forgotten the effect of cyclone Mandous. This cyclone damaged the ramp that was built at Marina Beach to help the differently abled persons to have fun on the beach.

The good news is that the GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation have repaired and extended the ramp for the differently abled persons. Now, everybody can go and relax at the Marina Beach.

The damaged deck has been removed and a small single pathway has been kept for the differently abled persons. It is noteworthy that the pathway that was rebuilt this year has been retracted by 20m. Based on many requests from differently able rights members, the GCC has now extended it closer to the beach waters.

A huge amount of Rs 115 cr has been used by GCC to build the ramp that is 26m in length. The superb piece of information is that Brazilian wood has been used and it has been punched into the muds with the help of bolts. Point to be noted is that the ramp begins near Vivekananda House goes upto 10m from the sea now

According to Mr. Satish Kumar, a member of disability rights alliance that has been coordinating with GCC several corrective measures that are keeping the ramp free from non-disabled people was needed.

He threw light on how many visitors stand on the middle of the ramp to take selfies etc creating issues for the differently abled persons in the wheel chairs. He spoke about the toilets that were present far away for the differently abled persons to use them.
