The important need to curb the operation of bike taxis in Chennai!!

Travelling from one place to another place in Chennai is not difficult now with the availability of cabs, autos and bike taxis etc. Travelling in the bike taxis is making news now.
Two wheelers are just personal vehicles and cannot be used for commercial purposes. This was according to the transport minister Mr. SS. Sivasankar. On Friday, 9th June 2023, the minister hinted that the transport dept has been discussing curbing the operation of bike taxis.
These days, many people prefer bike taxis to go to their destinations as travelling in these bike taxis are cheap and easy etc. Not many know that travelling in the bike taxis might lead to accidents. It must be noted that the passengers` safety is put at high risk in those bike taxis.
Information is that the RTOs in Chennai have been seizing the two wheelers that are used as bike taxis. It must be recalled that recently the RTO in Thiruvanmiyur seized more than 10 two wheelers used as bike taxis. For the operation of bike taxis, there are no clear cut rules as the Road Safety Rules come under the Union govt. This was mentioned by the minister Mr. SS. Sivasankar.
