The "Cities" project, aimed at enhancing educational infrastructure, has successfully renovated and modernized 28 schools under the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC). The initiative, supported by financial assistance from the France Development Financial Agency, has made significant strides in improving educational facilities and resources.
A recent notification from the Greater Chennai Corporation highlights the ongoing commitment to this project. An additional 11 schools under the GCC are slated for renovation and modernization, further contributing to the overall development of educational institutions in the region.
The notification specifies, "The `Cities` project, launched with funding from the France Development Financial Agency, has undertaken transformative initiatives in 12 major cities. In Chennai, Rs. 95.25 Crores has been allocated for the renovation/modernization of 28 schools under the GCC."
Moreover, a financial loan of Rs. 76.20 Crores from the France Development Agency has played a crucial role in supporting the renovation efforts. The 28 schools in Chennai Metro City, operating under the Greater Chennai Corporation, have undergone comprehensive modernization. This includes the establishment of `smart` classrooms equipped with the latest technology, fully upgraded laboratories, top-notch infrastructure for playgrounds, enhanced sanitation facilities, teacher skill-development training, specialized sports training, STEM laboratories, and Language Research Centres.
A recent review meeting, chaired by Mayor R. Priya of the Chennai Metro City, took place on November 23rd. High-level representatives from AFD (Agents Franchise De Development) and NIUA (National Institute of Urban Affairs) were in attendance. The meeting focused on assessing the progress of various development projects, with particular attention given to the renovation of the 28 schools under the Greater Chennai Corporation. Future activities were also discussed during this session.
