The TNMB or Tamil Nadu Maritime Board has decided to operate a passenger ferry service along the Ramanathapuram coast. The objective behind this would be to improve accessibility, enrich visitors` experience and boost the tourism sector to Ramanathapuram.
In the future, we would be able to witness short sea tourist ferry services along the Ramanathapuram coast including Ramanathapuram, Devipattnam and Pamban. This was mentioned by some sources. It was later mentioned by a senior officer that Ramanathapuram`s local economy would get boosted by the proposed ferry services. He added that there would be more tourists (both domestic and international) to this district. It is superb to mention that there would be more direct as well as indirect job opportunities in TN.
According to the vice chairman & CEO of TNMB, it was clear that TNMB has invited EOI or expression of interest from the ferry owners and operators etc. By 11am on 7th October, applicants have been asked to submit their EOI with details.
It must be noted that the ferry owners and operators would be able to operate services at important locations along Ramanathapuram coast including Rameswaram, Pamban etc. Point is that any section of the coast would be covered with a travel time of not more than 2 to 3 hours on the high speed passenger ferry. Ramanathapuram has been chosen because Ramnad or Mugavai is one of the oldest regions in TN and it has got connections with Ramayana.
There are numerous tourist attractions in the district of Ramanathapuram like Rameswaram, Dr. APJ Abdu Kalam memorial, Pamban Bridge, Devipattinam, Thirupullani etc. The sensational piece of information is that along with Varanasi Rameswaram is a part of char Dham pilgrimage and it attracts many devotees, pilgrims etc.
