Justice Kalpathi Rajendran Shriram was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court on Friday, with Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi administering the oath at Raj Bhavan in Chennai. The ceremony was attended by High Court judges, Speaker Appavu, and ministers Durai Murugan, Ponmudi, KN Nehru, and Regupathy.
Born in Mumbai on September 28, 1963, Justice KR Shriram has ancestral roots in Kerala. He earned a BCom in Financial Accountancy and Management and later studied law at Mumbai University, pursuing maritime law at King`s College, London. He became an Advocate with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa in 1986 and later established his own chamber in 1997, specializing in commercial matters, shipping, and international trade law.
His appointment as Chief Justice followed a recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium, and on September 21, President Droupadi Murmu granted consent for his appointment.
