The scheme of transferring the cooking gas subsidies to household bank accounts was put on hold by the centre. This was a mere trick to pull in the public for Aadhar card application. Nevertheless, people are still flooding to get their names registered for Aadhar card numbers. Speaking to the joint director of Census operations and controlling officer, M.R.V.Krishna Rao, he stated that people are flowing in to get their Aadhar number.

As of 28th February 2014, over 4.44 crore Aadhar numbers got generated in Tamil Nadu. The targeted population in the state was 67.4 crore which proves that two-third of the state’s population have obtained the Aadhar number. According to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Aadhar is a 12 digit number based on demographic and biometric information which shows the uniqueness of each and every individual. The number also serves to be a identification and address proof valid anywhere in the country.
