New facility to know about the next stop in MTC Buses
MTC buses are being equipped with GPS technology. The fitting of gadgets is being expedited.
In the first stage,
100 Air-conditioned buses plying in the city have been fitted with GPS
facility. Out of these, 30 buses have been fitted with TV monitors and
computers.
Tamil Nadu government
had announced the plan to introduce facilities for public benefit.
Test-run was conducted
in the bus routes ‘21G’ & ‘A21’. This was successful. MTC awaited approval
from the government to introduce this in all buses. Approval has been given.
The work of fixing GPS facility in all buses has been taken up in full swing.
30 air-conditioned
buses have been fitted with one 32” LCD TV and one 24” TV. A computer has been
installed at the back of the driver’s seat.
The work on 100 A/C
buses is expected to be completed in 20 to 25 days. They will become operative
after the election.
The balance work is
planned to be carried out in batches of 500 buses for the total of 3640 buses.
New facilities
- The details of the next stop will be announce through the TV 150 metres before the stop, This will help the passengers with no need to refer to others.
- Information on traffic density will also be available. If required, the bus may take alternative route.
- Comedy sevens from films, film songs, weather details, information about tourist spots & sacred places will be telecast.
- With the GPS facility, the movement & inside of the bus can be monitored in the central control room. Drivers & conductors can be communicated through SMS which can be seen on the TV as well.
