Once metro rails commence its functioning, cashless payment methods with the use of smartcards will soon be introduced by the government. And it is likely that the possibility of the same system with autorickshaws might not be possible.

Taking this plea to the government, Ola, a private transport provider went on to the authorities to introduce cashless payment methods for their services in six cities across the country. This company made possible the system which has been a trouble for the government for over 15 years.

Ola’s method of payment without cash encompasses autos and yellow and black taxis as well. Commuters can make use of Ola mobile app and pay through it for rides in Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Delhi, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. Ola currently has about 10,000 autos functioning for it across the nation.

Speaking to the director of marketing and communications of Ola cabs, he said they began their service in October and have made a massive expansion since then. This has made a 40 per cent hike in revenue for all auto drivers belonging to the platform. With cashless payment method, it has become very easy to ride without the need to have money or change all the time.
