Shipping service between Chennai and Kanyakumari to be launched soon

Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Mahesh Sharma has mentioned that the Union government is considering launching of shipping service between Chennai and Kanyakumari to give a fillip to the tourism industry.Mr. Sharma also said that the Centre will also construct a bridge connecting the Tiruvalluvar statue and Vivekanandar Rock in Kanyakumari.
When asked Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Mahesh Sharma about constructing an airport in Kanyakumari, he said that though there is a norm that the distance between two airports should be maintained at least 150 km, the Union government would consider establishing a Green Field Airport near Samithoppu in Kanyakumari district after relaxing certain norms if it is feasible.
The Minister has also mentioned that Union Government has planned to launch a shipping service between Chennai and Kanyakumari. Survey with regard to this has been completed. The ship will touch religious places like Velankanni and Rameswaram.
