For the first time, the Tamil Nadu government with the aid of the central government subsidy is building 2 bedrooms flat at a cost of Rs 20 Lakhs for the lower income group people.

This 19 storied building will have 2,394 double-bedroom flats. So far 1000 people have bought the flats. It is not an easy task for a common man to buy a house because of its exorbitant pricing. Keeping this in mind, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had announced that low priced houses will be built for lower income group people.

Accordingly, 19 storied building will have 2,394 double-bedroom flats are being built at a cost of Rs 435 Crores at Ayapakkam near Ambattur in Chennai.

The flats were priced at Rs. 19.9 lakh, but with the Centre extending financial assistance through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Housing For All, the cost had come down further, with the 626 sq.ft, double bedroom flats costing only Rs. 2,850 per sq.ft.

The project’s target beneficiaries are lower-income group families earning below Rs. 40,000 a month.

More people are expected to apply as construction progresses, especially towards the end of the project’s completion.

Unlike the private sector, beneficiaries applying for TNHB homes would not want to pay their equated monthly installments for their booked home and also live in a rented house at the same time.
