Chennai High Court has extended the ban on registration of unapproved land/plot till 30th January. It has ordered the Tamil Nadu state government to categorise the and response within 2 weeks period.

This action has been taken by the Chennai High Court following a petition by Yaanai Rajendran on behalf of the public protesting against the process of converting agricultural lands into housing plots when it placed a ban on this sales to 9th September 2016.

The Chennai High Court had also ordered the Tamil Nadu state government to categorise the land and submit a report. At that time, the advocate on behalf of the state government had replied that the activity of categorising the lands was in progress and it might require some more time to submit the report.

Consequently, the advocate representing the real estate owners requested to formalise the regulations regarding the sales of housing plots by forming a separate panel of retired judges. He explained that they real estate owners had suffered because of the existing ban and asked for withdrawing of the ban till new regulations are implemented.

However, the judges refuse this proposal and gave the state government 2 weeks time to categorise the lands. They postponed the next hearing t0 30th January.
